Call for Papers
The NAACL 2027 Student Research Workshop (SRW) provides a forum for student-led research in computational linguistics, natural language processing, and closely related areas of machine learning. Participants can present completed work, work in progress, or thesis proposals and receive feedback from reviewers, mentors, and the broader NAACL community.
We invite submissions in two categories:
- Thesis Proposals: Appropriate for PhD students who have identified a thesis topic and would like feedback on the proposed direction, research plan, and broader framing.
- Research Papers: Appropriate for completed work or work in progress with preliminary results. The first author must be a current student or have completed the work while a student.
Submissions in both categories may be archival or non-archival:
- All accepted archival papers will be published in the NAACL 2027 SRW Proceedings.
- Non-archival papers may be submitted to any venue in the future except for another SRW (subject to the destination venue’s policies). Submissions marked as non-archival cannot be changed to archival after acceptance.
All accepted papers and thesis proposals will be presented either as oral presentations or during poster sessions at the main conference.
Pre-Submission Mentorship Program
The SRW offers students the opportunity to receive feedback prior to submitting their work for review. The goal is to improve the quality of writing and presentation of the student’s work. Participation is optional but strongly encouraged.
Students wishing to participate must request a mentor by November 16, 2026 via the Mentorship Request Form. A complete draft is not required to apply.
Matched mentors will provide feedback to help students refine their draft before the final submission deadline. Mentorship participants must still submit their final paper through OpenReview by January 11, 2027.
Submission Requirements
- Long papers: Up to eight (8) pages of content. Upon acceptance, papers will receive one additional page (up to 9 pages).
- Short papers: Up to four (4) pages of content. Upon acceptance, papers will receive one additional page (up to 5 pages).
- Thesis proposals: Up to eight (8) pages of content (up to 9 pages upon acceptance). Titles must begin with “Thesis Proposal:”.
- References and appendices: Both lengths allow unlimited pages for references and supplementary materials (e.g., appendices).
- Templates: Submissions must use official ACL templates (Overleaf or direct download).
- Anonymity: Review is double-blind. All submissions must follow the main conference’s anonymity period and restrictions.
- Student Status: Proof of the first author’s student status is required at submission time by January 11, 2027.
How to Submit
Submissions should be made via OpenReview by January 11, 2027. The OpenReview submission link will be posted on the SRW website once open. An ARR commitment track is not planned.
Travel Grants & Student Support
Travel grants and volunteer opportunities to offset conference registration, travel, and accommodation expenses will be coordinated with the main conference student volunteer program. Details will be announced on the SRW website.
